2020s
Happy birthday to @robkroese! Let’s all celebrate by buying of one his Blade Runner-esque The Big Sheep books, or one his hilarious Rex Nihilo novels, or one of his deeply-researched and brilliant Iron Dragon (Vikings build a spaceship!) books.
The hunt is finished.
One of us is way more impressed with @JackCarrUSA’s latest than the other. (Hint: it’s me.)
Yay for today’s mail and this goodie from @patrickrhone. I love this book size, Patrick!
In the field of marching bands, Frank Wickes is a legend. With a 30-year tenure at #LSU, he was, for many alumni, the only LSU band director they’ve ever known. I’m honored to have shared the pregame field of Tiger Stadium in the fall of 1989 with him leading the Golden Band from Tigerland. Rest in peace, Mr. Wickes.
For what it’s worth, I roll with “Modern Noir” as my @tweetbot icon, because @tapbot_paul once referred to that look as the “murder bird” and I find that amusing.
With its five first-round #NFLDraft2020 picks, @LSUfootball had more players taken than the entire Pac-12 did (3).
And the entire ACC (3).
And as many as the entire Big 12.
And as many as the entire B1G.
A different type of tiger stripes in @Joe_Burrow10’s future. Way to geaux, Joe! Congrats! #NFLDraft2020
“Grief, as it turns out, is one of the dominant features of our having been engulfed by the events of our time, weaving its way in and around our anxiety and anger, inflaming our hearts and weighing down our lives along the way.”
This weekend I’ve been revisiting the greatness of @Evanescence’s Fallen. I continue to marvel at @AmyLeeEV’s vocals.
The Empowered Parent Podcast Shelters in Place
Like most of our listeners, our families are sheltering in place, doing our best to remain in coronavirus quarantine except for venturing out for groceries and food. Ryan, Kayla, and I got together over Zoom to record a pair of episodes about our experiences, and I shot a promo video for these with my boys.
You can listen to the first of these two episodes here: https://empoweredparent.podbean.com/e/shelter-in-place-s07-e01/
I’ve also been informed this episode was downloaded over 1,000 times in the first 24 hours!
A sobering thought today: Tom Cruise’s first Mission Impossible film and John Frankenheimer’s Ronin are now the sort of espionage thrillers my teenage son looks at the way I looked at the Cold War spy movies of the 1960s when I was his age.
Unbidden, and with no input from me, my middle child asked if he and his younger brother could watch “the last #StarWars movie” (Rise of Skywalker), and now this #GeekDad is on the couch a little verklempt.
Cleaning out old business documents, and apparently once upon a time, I had an email address ending in @maclink.net. That’s pretty cool.
