Watched the pilot of the new Magnum, P.I. I have a few thoughts:

1. It’s your typical CBS action drama; plot moves way, way faster than it would in real life, so just suspend your belief in reality and enjoy.
2. Nice nods to the original with the cast, cars, chopper, and more. (Hint: the pilot episode’s title.)
3. The updates to the cast backstories are perfect for this era.
4. Jay Hernandez is a very likeable guy. He comes across as an everyman who could be anyone’s buddy, and that’s not just from this one episode. Good casting choice.

Final judgment will have to wait until further episodes air. It’s not going to win any awards, but it’s a fun ride. I’m even willing to overlook the Fast & Furious, oh-give-me-a-break stunt in the climax.
